Ramadan - the ninth month of the Islamic calendar - started last month. Observed by most of the world's 1.6 billion Muslims, it’s a holy period often most associated with fasting (or ‘Sawm’).

But did you know charity is an equally important aspect of Ramadan? In fact, Muslims across the UK donate around £130 million to various charities during this month alone.

Why’s that?

Ramadan is a period to show compassion to the poor and less fortunate in society. Which is why lots of Muslims choose to give alms, known as ’Zakat’ (one of the five pillars of Islam), during this holy month in particular.

Donations are usually focused on people affected by poverty or hunger, with many UK mosques often now gathering crucial food bank provisions alongside other forms of giving. And with 2.5 million emergency food parcels distributed in the UK over the last year alone (according to recent Trussell Trust figures), its clear the need for compassion is as great as ever this Ramadan.

In this together

Ramadan is traditionally a month of togetherness - from congregating with the community to break the fast (‘Iftar’) to sharing gifts with families during Eid al-Fitr celebrations. But with Covid-19 restrictions significantly limiting the usual opportunities for gathering and giving, Bankuet offers a simple and safe solution.

Our online platform helps unite generous donors with those struggling to make ends meet, through our vast network of food bank partners across the country. You can help someone with their weekly kitchen staples or pledge to feed a large family each month…all at the click of a button.

We pool your donations which means for every £1 you give, we’re able to deliver more than £1 worth of food supplies. Plus Bankuet deliveries are specifically requested, so nothing goes to waste.

The month of blessings

An increasing number of households in the UK are facing destitution due to the Covid-19 pandemic. And with the ban on landlords evicting tenants due to end this month, food bank support is expected to soon be in even greater demand.

With your support, we can help food banks get the crucial supplies they need to meet this growing need. Head to bankuet.co.uk/givenow to donate and help make a lasting impact this Ramadan - the month of blessings.
